OT: Peeling dash on late model GM vehicles, how to fix?
I have an '05 Tahoe with one spot where the paint is peeling up from the plastic dash. I have read this is a water based dye coating that will lift if solvent based cleaners are used. I understand there is a repair for this problem available, but I have not found it. Anybody know about how this repair is done? Info or a link appreciated.

Color matched (or as close as you can get) duct tape.

Apparently there is a dye 'color matched' aerosol spray that you cure with a heat gun that's used to repair these. Supposedly it's a great looking fix. I'm looking for help or info in that direction.

Thanks Ken, might have to give that one a try but I suspect matching the existing dash near impossible with a collection of base colors. Also that kit appears aimed at cuts and tears whereas I have a peeling problem.
I was hoping for a spray dye that's already color matched for the gray dash I have. (IE: 2002 through 2005 Chevrolet interior gray) or such. - Aluminum

http://www.bryndana.com/ I have never used them but, they seem to handle the oem colors. Most of the dyes that I have seen smelled like lacquer to me.

Several restoration supply houses stock the colors for older vehicle interiors, in addition to the sites shown by others see www.yearone.com . If you cannot find an aerosol can product to match, many of the autobody material and paint suppliers that sell to body shops carry a product for interior trim surfaces that can be tinted to match your existing color. It's been a few years since I have had to do this myself but I did get good results. Careful cleaning and surface prep (including masking and covering EVERYTHING you do not want coated ) is the key. Good luck

IMPORTANT-when you receive this dash cap, be sure to open all three sides of package, DO NOT PULL IT OUT THE END. If you do, you WILL damage dash cap ends or in the middle and we cannot do anything about it or replace it.if Outside of package looks like it is damaged, be sure to inspect item within 24 hours and contact us so we can escalate a claim.

Now you simply need to pop your new GM stepper motors where the old ones were, they will only install in one direction so you don't have to worry about mixing them up or getting it wrong. Make sure you get the correct part number when you buy your stepper motors (see link above for correct parts). Then you use the solder and iron to solder on a small amount of solder to each motor's pin. The solder should flow on smoothly, quickly and cool to a even shiny finish if done properly.
Place the circuit board back into the white center housing and snap on the black back housing. Now slide each needle back onto the shaft of each new motor being careful to slide it on smoothly and straight down not at an angle, to prevent bending the motor shafts. It doesn't matter what angle the needle is pointed at this step but, to make it easy slide them on pointing roughly at the 12:00 position.
Finally, rotate each needle counter clockwise until the tip of the needle points right to the mark on the masking tape that you made in a previous step. Remove tape and snap clear lens back on making sure to line up the odometer selector stalk. Clean the lens before installing if needed.
You're now ready to re-install the cluster and test our your gm instrument cluster repair job!
